Walkabout is the Florence agency that built its volume on a simple formula: long days out in Tuscany at an entry price nobody in the city can match, plus a tail of cooking classes, walking tours, Vespa and bike rides. Best of Tuscany starts at €75 for twelve hours across Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa, lunch at a winery included.

The verdict in two sentences: this is a real operator with a review count very few competitors can show, and its 24-hour cancellation policy is one of the cleanest in the business. The low price is paid for in group size: on the day trips you travel by full-size coach, not by minivan.

It suits anyone who wants to cover three Tuscan towns in a day on a small budget, or a museum entry with someone to walk you in at a modest cost. It does not suit anyone who wants a small group, a dedicated guide or flexibility over dates.

Search for “Walkabout Florence” and you land on a domain that no longer exists as a site of its own: walkaboutflorence.com answers with a permanent 301 redirect to walkabouttours.com, checked on 22 September 2026. The trading name today is Walkabout Tours.

This is not a clone site or a hijack: it is the same company, which shortened its name because it now sells beyond Tuscany. The registered name in the company records is still Walkabout S.r.l.

The practical consequence is about trust. If you hold an old confirmation with a walkaboutflorence.com address on it, it is still valid. If instead you arrive from an advert promising “Walkabout Florence” on a domain other than walkabouttours.com, check the VAT number before you pay.

What it sells in Florence and what it costs

The catalogue rests on five families: Tuscany in a day, Chianti and wine, cooking, walking tours and wheels (Vespa, Fiat 500, bikes). Below are the operator’s own prices next to the same products sold on the platforms, at the time of checking.

Two warnings about the Accademia line. Walkabout’s €15 does not include the ticket: add the entry, which according to galleriaaccademiafirenze.it costs €20 plus €4 booking fee, and you are at roughly €39. And the comparison with the platform tours is not like for like, because there the price covers both ticket and guide.

On wine the gap is stark: the €130 Wine Safari sits at almost three times the best-selling winery tour on the platforms. How booking works

You buy on the operator’s site by card and the confirmation arrives by email. The same tours are resold on GetYourGuide and Viator: in that case your contract is with the platform, support comes from the platform, and cancellation follows the platform’s rules rather than Walkabout’s.

For Tuscany day trips the meeting point is where the coach leaves, in the station area; the exact meeting point is on your voucher. Turn up fifteen minutes early: morning departures pool several tours and the coach does not wait.

Bring your confirmation in a readable form, printed or on screen. Among the TripAdvisor complaints is a boarding refused to someone who showed only a bank receipt and no confirmation email, with €175 lost.

Cancellation, refunds and support

The published formula is generous and clear: full refund for any cancellation up to 24 hours before departure time, free date change within the same window. Under 24 hours nothing is refunded.

The problem customers report is not the written rule but how it is applied: there is at least one documented review of a date change refused. If your dates are uncertain, buying through a platform where you cancel yourself from your account removes the friction.

Support answers on three channels: landline, WhatsApp and email. The WhatsApp number is a genuine advantage if you are already in town and need to report that you are running late.

What the reviews say

The number that counts is the TripAdvisor listing: 4.9 out of 5 from 34,166 reviews, fourth of 318 in the Classes & Workshops category, at the time of checking. A base that wide makes the score statistically solid, which is rare among Florence operators.

On Trustpilot there is no page at all for the domain: the search returns a 404. The “4.9/5 from 70,000+ travelers” shown on the site is an aggregate across different platforms, not a score you can verify at a single source.

The recurring complaints have three themes. Coaches with more than fifty seats and weak air conditioning in summer. Rigidity over confirmations and date changes. Drop-offs ten minutes’ walk from the point the tour left from.

• Rigid application of confirmation rules, including refused boardings.
• On cooking classes and Tuscany day trips the platforms start much lower.
• Guide licensing not stated: the site does not say whether its escorts are on the national register of tour guides.

Verdict

Walkabout Tours earns 3.5 out of 5. Half a point above average for corporate solidity, review volume and a cancellation policy that is well written; half a point off for coach comfort and the rigidity it has shown over confirmations and date changes.

Would you pay three or four times the ticket price here? Mostly you are not being asked to: on the day trips you are buying transport and a long day, and €75 for twelve hours is honest money. The one line where the multiple appears is the Accademia, and there €15 plus a €24 ticket is still less than a platform tour with a guide.

Buy it if your yardstick is price per hour of touring and you accept a big group. If you want a Florence tour with a guide and a contained group, the saving eats the quality of what you hear.
