Duomo official tickets in Florence (Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore): passes, prices and review

The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore is a fabbriceria, a private body that has administered the cathedral complex for centuries, and it sells tickets directly: no concessionaire, no online booking fee, a single shop on tickets.duomo.firenze.it and a physical ticket office at Piazza San Giovanni 7.

The verdict in two sentences: it is the most transparent channel in the city on price and the toughest on rules, because there is no way at all to change or be refunded for a pass. It suits almost everyone on price; it does not suit last-minute decisions in high season, when the dome slots have gone online and there is no reserve at the desk.

The three passes: what they include and what they cost

There are no single-monument tickets. You visit the complex with one of three passes, all valid for three calendar days and all giving one entry per monument.

The Ghiberti On-site is sold only at the desks and only when the standard Ghiberti is sold out: it is the one physical reserve that exists. The Giglio Pass is reserved for residents of the Metropolitan City of Florence on the first Sunday of the month, is collected at the desk and lasts one day.

Children under 7 go in free. Students get a €5 reduction on the Ghiberti Pass only, and only at the ticket office. The online limit is 10 Brunelleschi Passes per order.

How booking works

You choose the pass, then the date and — for the monument that needs one — the time slot. The Brunelleschi Pass is nominative: first name, surname and nationality of every visitor go in before payment, and ID is checked at the dome entrance. The ticket arrives as a PDF with a QR code and does not need printing.

Three details that make the difference on the day:

• The slot tolerance is five minutes: turn up five minutes early, not five minutes late.
• Bag storage at Piazza Duomo 38/r is compulsory and free (7:30–20:15). Anyone reaching the metal detectors with a backpack or suitcase does not get in.
• Online availability is final. A greyed-out slot is sold out, and there is no alternative waiting at the desk.

The cathedral itself — the nave — stays free and ticketless from Monday to Saturday 10:15–15:45, with a single queue at the Bell Tower Door. On Sundays it is closed to visitors. Details, monument-by-monument hours and a suggested route are on our Florence Duomo page.

Refunds, support and works in progress

The Opera’s terms are explicit: no pass can be amended, cancelled or refunded, and that exclusion also covers liturgical closures and force majeure. If it rains and you give up the climb, the ticket is gone.

Support answers by phone, email and WhatsApp, with dedicated addresses for accessibility and for groups. The museum’s official audio guide is free through the OperaGuide app, published by the Opera itself for iOS and Android, with a full route covering the 225 works on display and a short one covering 26 highlights. There is no official app called “Il Duomo di Firenze”: if you find one, it is not the Opera’s.

Two building sites to factor in before you pay: the mosaics on the Baptistery vault are not visible because of the restoration under way, and the Bell Tower has been under full restoration since 9 March 2026, with the scaffolding coming down from the top and the view partly restricted. The climb is still open. Maintenance closures are scheduled for the dome from 16 to 20 November 2026 and for the bell tower from 9 to 13 November 2026.

Authorised resellers: who is on the list and who is not

The official FAQ repeats that no skip-the-line service exists and that sites offering one are not authorised. The Opera does, however, publish a network of accredited B2B partners, and it is verifiable: it sits in the FAQ of its own ticket shop, on tickets.duomo.firenze.it/en/support/faq. GetYourGuide, Viator, Headout and Civitatis do not appear on that list.

When the official channel wins and when a platform does

Official channel if: your dates are fixed; you want the face price with no resale margin; you need the 7–14 reduction or free entry; you want the guided dome visit or the Baptistery restoration site, which nobody else sells.

Accredited platform if: the dome slot is sold out everywhere except there; you want an audio guide or a host included; you are buying the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Accademia in one basket, as in the packages on combo tickets; you need a cancellation option the Opera never grants. Pros and cons

Pros

• No online booking fee: €30 means €30.
• Passes valid for three days: you can split the visit without paying twice.
• Real slots, managed by the body that owns the monuments.
• Free entry to the nave, for under-7s and for residents with the Giglio Pass.

Cons

• A zero-sum refund policy, bad weather included.
• Dome slots sold out weeks ahead in high season.
• No reserve at the desk, apart from the Ghiberti On-site.
• Two building sites that take something away: the Baptistery mosaics and the Bell Tower scaffolding.

Verdict

The Duomo’s official channel takes 4.5 out of 5: it is the most honest on price, the clearest on rules and the only one that adds not a single euro of service charge. It loses half a point for the absolute rigidity and for the fact that anyone who does not plan ahead is simply left out of the dome.

A practical rule: if your trip is fixed, buy Duomo official tickets here as early as you can, because any product costing more than €30 for the dome is a resale. If all you can find are useless slots, an accredited platform is the only real second chance — and in that case you are paying for availability, not for a priority entry that does not exist.
