Accademia Gallery official tickets (B-ticket / Firenze Musei): how the ticket office works, prices and review

The Accademia Gallery is the last of Florence’s big state museums still selling through B-ticket, the platform run by Opera Laboratori Fiorentini that the museum presents as the only online channel authorised by the Ministry of Culture. The phone number is the historic Firenze Musei one, +39 055 294883, and since 15 March 2026 the gallery and the Bargello Museums have formed a single institute, the GAMB.

The verdict in two sentences: the official channel costs less than anyone else and offers combined tickets no platform can copy, but the buying experience is dated and the refund policy is closed. It suits travellers with fixed dates who want to spend the minimum; it does not suit anyone after an included audio guide, flexibility, or a peak-hour slot at the last minute.

What it costs and what you are buying

The ticket price rose from €16 to €20 on 1 February 2026. The €4 booking fee is charged on every booked ticket, free ones included: a family with two children pays €8 in booking fees alone.

The combined tickets are the official channel’s strongest argument: no platform resells them. Anyone also planning the Bargello Museum and the Medici Chapels saves more with a combined ticket than with any commercial pass.

Opening hours, last entry and access rules

Since 15 March 2026 every site in the institute keeps unified hours of 8:15–18:50, Tuesday to Sunday.

Two rules surprise anyone arriving with a suitcase: there is no cloakroom and no bag storage. You may bring in bags and backpacks up to 40×30×18 cm; for anything larger there is paid storage at the My Accademia shop, Via Ricasoli 105/r. Security is by metal detector, water is allowed up to half a litre, and food and drink cannot be consumed in the rooms.

If you are coming straight from luggage storage with your case in tow, leave it there before turning up in Via Ricasoli: there is no quick fix outside the entrance.

How booking really works

The official route is simple but old-fashioned: from the museum site you land on the B-ticket webshop, pick a day and a time slot, pay and receive your ticket. Groups of more than eight people and school parties must go through the phone line.

On the booking horizon the museum states nothing officially: it publishes no sell-out statistics and no release window, and the lead times circulating on travel forums are visitor anecdotes, not institute data. What is published is the advice: booking is “strongly recommended” because without one the wait can be long. The desk in Via Ricasoli keeps selling even when the site shows sold out.

For Firenze Card holders booking is compulsory and free, but it has to be done by phone or in person: the museum’s ticket page shows no dedicated online channel for pass holders. Budget for a phone call. More on that in Firenze Card.

Cancellations, refunds and support

The institute’s general conditions — adopted by the board on 24 July 2026 and published in full on the museum site — state that the GAMB “provides no refunds and no changes of date or time”, purchasing mistakes included. The only case where you get your money back is a forced closure of the museum for exceptional events. Tickets bought online or through the call centre are nominative, and last entry at every GAMB site is 40 minutes before closing, not thirty.

Support is by phone, with long hours (Mon–Fri 8:30–18:30, Saturday until 18:00, Sunday 9:00–18:00), and by email through Firenze Musei. There is no chat and no app.

What users say

The museum sits at 4.6/5 with 32,479 TripAdvisor reviews at the time of checking, sixth among the city’s 819 attractions. The recurring criticism is not about the David but about the queue and the confusion around tickets.

When we checked on 22 September 2026, the official ticket page still carried a paragraph with the old €16 price next to the new one, and the site’s security certificate could not be verified in strict mode. Travel reviews regularly warn against resellers presenting themselves as official: one TripAdvisor review names two misleadingly titled sites and tells readers to avoid them.

When the official channel wins and when a platform does

Official channel if: your date is fixed; you want to spend €24 all in; the combined tickets with the Bargello and the Medici Chapels interest you; you qualify for a reduced or free ticket, which platforms do not sell; you hold a Firenze Card.

Platform if: the slot you need has gone on the official channel; you want to be able to cancel; you would rather have an in-app audio guide than the museum’s €6 one; you are buying the Uffizi and the Accademia in a single transaction, as in the packages on combo tickets; you prefer support with chat and an app, as on Tiqets and GetYourGuide.

Verdict

The Accademia’s official channel is worth 3.5 out of 5. The substance is excellent — minimum price, combined tickets, real slots — but the form belongs to a service that has not been refreshed: pages with old prices, a slow webshop, zero flexibility after purchase.

The practical advice has not changed in years: for the David, book. Whether you do it through the Accademia official tickets channel or on a platform depends only on how much the option to change your mind is worth to you.
