Headout reviews: is it legit for Florence tickets? Prices, cancellation and coverage

Headout is a US reseller of attraction tickets, born as a mobile app and grown on search traffic: carefully built listings, struck-through prices, discounts front and centre. For Florence it declares 247 experiences in the code of its city page.

The verdict in two sentences: on the Uffizi it often has the lowest price among the platforms, but those tickets cannot be cancelled or moved; on the Duomo it applies mark-ups with no justification, given that the Opera sells directly and at a fixed price. It is a platform to use with the official price list open in another tab.

It suits anyone after a bare price on a single museum with the date already locked in. It does not suit anyone buying passes, travelling with an open plan, or not checking the currency at checkout.

Florence coverage and prices

The Florentine catalogue sits halfway: deeper than Civitatis’, much narrower than Viator’s. The big museums are there, along with walking tours, audio guides and small groups capped at fifteen people; cooking experiences and wineries are almost entirely missing, and for those the reference is still GetYourGuide.

At the Uffizi price is its best argument. The timed ticket listing starts at €28 and is shown at €19.60 with a 30% discount, with 4.4 from 3,342 reviews. The official price list, though, is not a single number: €25 for the same day, €29 with a date booked ahead, €16 / €20 from 16:00. A ticket at €19.60 therefore has to be compared with the afternoon one, not with full admission.

The real problem is something else, and it is written on the listing: those tickets can be neither cancelled nor rescheduled. You pay less and you take on all the risk.

On the Duomo the comparison is brutal. The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore sells directly, with no concession holder, and the Brunelleschi Pass costs €30 for the dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the museum, the Baptistery and Santa Reparata, valid three days. Resold on Headout the same pass comes to €51.92: 73% more for identical access.

On its Duomo pages the Opera writes a line that applies to every platform: a “skip the line” service does not exist and never will, and outside parties selling one are not authorised. Tiqets appears among the B2B resellers the Opera lists; for Headout we found no such confirmation.

The “official ticket partner” claim

This point is worth pausing on, because it is why many people reach Headout from search. At the time of checking the meta description of the Uffizi category reads in full: “Book Uffizi Gallery tickets from the official ticket partner”, and the same wording is repeated in the page’s structured data. No source from the Uffizi Galleries supports it: the museum publishes no list of authorised resellers and points to one official channel.

The comparison with the Duomo is instructive: the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore does publish a list of authorised operators, in its ticketing FAQs, and Headout is not on it. Where the authorisation exists, it can be verified; here it cannot.

How booking works

The path is the standard one: pick a date and a slot, pay, get the voucher on your phone. The mobile interface is probably the best in the category and phone support has an Italian number staffed around the clock, which many platforms do not offer.

One practical warning: the currency is chosen by geolocation, and in our test the page came up in zloty. Before comparing any price, force euros, otherwise you are comparing exchange rates.

Headout cancellation, refunds and support

The category banner promises free cancellation up to 24 or 48 hours before “on eligible products”. The word that matters is eligible: timed museum tickets, the ones almost everybody buys, are excluded. Read the line on the product page, not the banner above it.

Support answers, and answers quickly — 99% of negative Trustpilot reviews get a reply. On refunds, though, customer accounts describe partial settlements a long way below the amount spent.

What the reviews say

At the time of checking Trustpilot gives Headout 4.4 out of 5 from 63,486 reviews, with 74% five stars and 14% one star: a high score on a wide sample.

The picture gets more complicated elsewhere. The Better Business Bureau gives it a D- rating, the company is not accredited and 63 complaints are recorded as closed in three years; on PissedConsumer the score is 1.2 from 126 reviews. The recurring complaints are consistent across sources: queues despite the “skip the line”, partial refunds, tours cancelled by the platform without rebooking, confusion over times. The Rick Steves forum also hosts a thread warning about purchases through this channel.

Verdict

3 out of 5. Headout is a well-built selling machine and it is not a trap: the company is identifiable, support exists and tens of thousands of customers are happy. The problem is that its advantage — price — only holds on a single museum ticket, and it evaporates the moment you compare the right time band on the official list.

On the Duomo passes the gap is too wide to defend: €51.92 against €30 means paying pure margin. Add the non-cancellable main products and the BBB’s D- rating, and what comes out is a platform to use only with a comparison open in front of you.

If the price you see really is the lowest for the same time slot and the date is certain, fine. In every other case you buy better elsewhere.
